What Are Composite Doors?

Composite doors enjoy many similar benefits to uPVC Doors but feature a more traditional aesthetic appeal similar to timber doors. They are manufactured using a composition of different materials; timber, insulating foam, and Glass Reinforced Plastic being the main ones.

The door leaf is comprised of high-density polyurethane foam, with timber being used in the sub-frame for extra strength. Aluminium inserts are also used on both sides to prevent the door from warping or bowing. The doors are then finished off with a GRP outer skin, which is immune to sun fade and discolouration. It’s the same material used to make the hull of boats! All composite doors are tested in accordance with;

  • Water tightness – BSEN 1027
  • Wind resistance – BSEN 12211

and come with a large selection of colour options and glazed finishes to choose from. Prices start FROM £750

Your specific needs will dictate whether you choose composite doors or uPVC doors. Unlike uPVC doors, composite units have a traditional wood-like finish, making them ideal composite front doors in Glasgow. Despite this, both come in versatile style options to suit various tastes.

Both options can last for years with good care. However, composite doors are purpose-made to withstand the elements and heavy use. This makes it ideal for areas with extreme weather conditions or commercial spaces, like guest houses, where doors experience more frequent use.

Composite doors are usually more expensive than a uPVC option. Many prefer composite doors over uPVC units for their appearance and durable design, while uPVC remains popular for its versatility and more cost-effective price. Both are excellent options and depend on your budget and needs.

Requiring minimal maintenance, composite doors are a good investment that will save you money in the long run. Your stylish new composite front doors will increase the security of your home, especially when paired with multi-point locking systems, and withstand the Scottish weather with ease.

There is minimal maintenance required for these hard-working external doors. Only soapy water is needed to clean the door frame, door leaf, external and leaded glass, and hardware. Ensure the hinges and hardware are regularly lubricated with light engineering fluid on their moving parts.

Our composite door range comes with the option of a PVCu or aluminium contemporary outer frame ensuring a perfect fit. The colour of the door frame can also be colour matched, for instance, with a personalised composite back door. The frame helps keep your door more secure and prevents warping.
